Finally Friday! After another crazy week is over and already looking forward tomorrow when I will be finally going to Expo 2015 (Milan). Real excited moreover as tomorrow there will be a huge parade in honor of a Japan day and as Hello Kitty is the ambassador of Japan pavilion and as I work for this lovely lady, than going to be there as well.

And as I already know that tomorrow there won’t be much time cooking a big, innovative and creative fit breakfasts and try new recipes than last night prepared a wonderful alternative instead of my regular rolled oats / oat meal or overnight oats 2 ingredient oat cookies. Workout

Hello in this hot Wednesday! Milan has been having the craziest hot wave ever that just kills your mood to do..well anything. Luckily office is fully equipped with a/c – working a/c, so being productive at least during my working hours! Unlike my gym, that has been without it already for a week and I must tell you – it’s crazy! Taking shower felt like going in sauna that you need a shower after a shower, but it’s been too hot for too long already that just the power is going out for all the cooling systems running everywhere office, restaurant and cafeteria in the zone.

I went to gym and was thinking, “wow, so little people”, but than I realized why.. I was tired and exhausted from crazy working schedule and long hours working and the feeling under the weather and mentally tired so getting in a hot gym without an a/c working when outside is +35°C was NOT motivating to work out at all, BUT dedication is doing what you have to do you want it or do not to obtain your goals, so what I did? Happy Monday hot Milan! Ready to confront another work week? I am! Determined, charged and ready for new challenges and achievements – one step at a time!

If you were following me on Twitter and Instagram you already knew that went running a mile with Nike Training Club Milano to show how fast I am. and I must say, it went even better than I thought. Hadn’t been able to run more than a month not even talking about speed running, so was pretty nervous but all good that ends good and just jump right in and confront my fears just by Doing it without too much thinking! (too much thinking kills the courage, so I am not hesitating but just taking opportunities and accept challenges when they comes in front of me without much consideration if the feeling is right.)

It was such a great pleasure to meet and see so many smiley, active and positive people at one place and coming together to do something fit and just enjoy their Thursday evening sporty not by regular bar hopping and Milan apperetivos, even though there was a bar – a juice bar with a freshly squeezed smoothies to recharge our batteries after our mile along the Naviglio.

It’s finally Friday again! The best phrase ever for my ears today! Yesterday’s Nike 1 mile challenge got me like ” mum, I don’t want to go to school work today”. it’s been one hell of a week at work, gym, workouts, running, organizing, socializing and working on summer projects, challenges (like #JourneyToSplits challenge. About which you can read here and still join it!)  that today I feel destroyed that all I want to do is to be at home and just chill, hit the bed early and wake up and have a lovely piece of Banana protein bread with a big cup of green tea for a super breakfast to regain my strengths and get back on track.

Unfortunately the beautiful breakfast was last weekend and not sure if will be able to wake up early tomorrow to make another one, but definitely will be cookin’ which I love to do – so relaxing!

Actually it is funny but I have never tried traditional banana bread and I do go crazy for bananas! Just so you know traditional banana bread is primarily made out of sugar, white flour, and butter. Even though it features a fruit—the almighty banana—banana bread isn’t healthy. It’s mostly sugar and fat. And as I am fit chef that likes to tweaks recipes than this was a good case to try my own healthy version of it by customizing Annas Sward’s Banana protein bread recipe and adding my own experience.

July is for challenges

Happy 1st of July, hope it’s every where as sunny and lovely as it is now in Milan. well, actually maybe a little bit too so instead I would rather prefer to be at beach in beautiful Liguria, but still – not complaining, enjoying sunny Milan Summer days that are still full with things to do, see and experience. especially because here is held World Expo 2015, so city is buzzing with events, attractions, tastings, activities on every corner.

For me beginning of each month is new goal setting and things to look after. July for me is taking up and accepting new challenges, mostly fitness ones. Already mentioned that joined Nike Training Club Milano and did my first competition last Sunday, now taking second challenge tomorrow – So fast Day Milan to have a 1 mile run. (Wish me luck! Haven’t been competing and speed running since high school so feeling a little bit nervous but excited at the same time! )

Inspiration

Time indeed flies and feels like just yesterday was 1st of June while it’s almost over and it means that has left just 1 month to my second part of my fitness challenge with myself – to burn fat and increase muscles. First par has closed pretty successful – 2kg but looks like 5! Proud of that. Second part – should go for just giving more definition to muscles as shredding is going hand-in-hand with that. (Remember, the more muscles you have, the faster you burn fat), so this week is all about speeding up the rhythm and trying also some new things.

Last week I joined Nike Training Club Milano and re-download N+TC app to take part in their challenges (first one was yesterday – to track your workout or run with Nike apps and afterwards share on their social networks with the #BetterForIt (about this project you can read here.)  I must say I have pretty hooked with this new challenge and joining the Nike club that already looked up for the next challenge (this 2nd July, Milan) there will be So Fast day. Time has come to take out my last card up from my sleeve at share the last part if my Sicilian adventure – the Historical Bathing Establishment of Mondello beach or nowadays restaurant Alle Terrazze.

The place historically had been established 103 years ago as a bathing establishment of royalty and elevated social class allowing them to spend their summers enjoying the sunshine on the terrace stretching out over the clear blue water and having a fine dining experience in beautiful saloons or sipping coffee overlooking the sea.

The place nowadays has kept the same values and beauty and offers a wonderful lunch and dining experience in this majestic historical building.

As a new experience and local food seeker that loves to try new things, tastes and enjoys wonderful view, especially sea view, than having a wild caught sea fish for a lunch was more than just “good idea!”.  Read More

Workout

It’s official! Summer is here and the weather is getting hotter and hotter every day and it means that all those skirts and shorts should be taken out from the bottom of our closets to show off too the world. Of course with the short skirts and hot pants comes also the will to look great in them and this is where tall those hours spent at gym and working out we did at Winter and Spring comes handy, but it does not mean that the exercises should finish there just because summer is here. In contrary  should continue or even work harder to maintain and improve and this is what I am up to right now – as by the end of July is my second check-in of my workout and diet challenge to get on a great shape.

In June I put emphasis on core and booty, so it means – more HIIT and exercises for lower body to make it even more toned, shaped and lifted – because you cannot have too round booty). If also you would like to incorporate some new exercises to lift your booty and have leaner legs here are 5 exercises that can be performed even at home.

Midsummer night celebration

It’s official! The summer has officially arrived with it’s full glory and and greatness and to mark the occasion special, as the day of beginning of summer is also my name day as well as summer solstice than we did our best to make the best out of the day and flowers and dances was a must.

Midsummer night or summer solstice in Nordic countries has been always a great celebration. In Finland it’s on 19th June, Sweden on 20th June, in my home country – Latvia as well as Norway it’s on 23rd when the people make flower crowns, eat typical food, sing traditional songs and be merry all night long with friends and family around a bonfire if possible.

Happy midsummer everyone! Today is Sunday, midsummer and also my name day therefore triple reason to make this day special. (Already started with some fit pancakes and homemade frozen yogurt (recipe soon will follow) ice cream). Also Sunday is about traveling and sharing my stories and tips and today is not an exception – I will share my second part of my Sicily getaway – exploring Palermo beach – Mondello.

Mondello is a beach for people in Palermo that can be reached in 20 min from Palermo with car or  25 min with a public bus nr. 806 from Palermo – stop Piazza Don Sturzo. (Time table you can find on AMAT homepage and ticket costs 1,4 eur (absolutely mandatory), the bus goes every 15 minutes, so no really need to rush.)
