Every time I go back home to Latvia I am trying to get my hands on all the good and delicious local foods that you just cannot access to living in Italy like: sea buckthorn, wild cranberries, black bread, curd, power milk*, chanterelles, apples from my garden and so on and on.  I always try to incorporate them in my diet while I am there as well as try to bring back with me as much as possible. So needless to say that my getaway has a particular diet while I am here.

BUT that doesn’t mean that I am not following what I am putting on my plate. I still stick to my diet, but just trying to freshen it up with a local super foods. Here are some of my recommendations to stay in shape (and even improve it), that you just MUST try, while you are in Latvia (or any other North European country for that matter). Read More

Mornings are getting fresher and air is getting chillier and you can definitely feel that today is the first day of autumn.  Even though the sun is still shining it is not as hot as it used to be a month ago and we will not manage to blink our eyes that the colorful leaves and fall rains will arrive so it is last opportunity to make the best out of this wonderful weather and enjoy the last sunny days by spending them outdoors!

I actually do enjoy this weather a lot because you still can dress light but mornings asks for some scarf/ poncho perfectly pairing with a tumbler filled with a good, green tea you to warm you up.

So the first thing to embrace the outdoor wellness is to get yourself a good cup of a green tea to start morning right, boost your immune system and detox your body. Read More

Busy as a bee August visual board

It’s another Monday, but unlike other Milan Monday’s this one started with a heavy thunderstorms that cooled down the hot streets of the city. Much needed especially during this hot summer. I believe this is all time hottest summer I have ever had and not only because of the heat but also because it’s been so fast, so full, so vivid that days are just flying by. Sometimes I wish I could have 30 hours a day and 8 days a week (which there would be one more extra day at weekend to manage to do everything I have in my mind, but unfortunately or luckily it is not like that so all left to do is to prioritize and do my best to manage everything.) However we are yet in first half of the moment and there are still time to manage to do, see and experience things and add some nice memories to Summer 2015 list.

My second part of August seems pretty tough as well, because will be travelling every week starting this week till October, so all the writing, dieting, working out and blogging will be from the road. BUT determined to manage all and even make improvements because I know I can and will. So here comes my monthly visual board based on talented illustrator Kerrie Hess monthly calendar. (without that planning would be much more difficult).  Read More

Midsummer night celebration

It’s official! The summer has officially arrived with it’s full glory and and greatness and to mark the occasion special, as the day of beginning of summer is also my name day as well as summer solstice than we did our best to make the best out of the day and flowers and dances was a must.

Midsummer night or summer solstice in Nordic countries has been always a great celebration. In Finland it’s on 19th June, Sweden on 20th June, in my home country – Latvia as well as Norway it’s on 23rd when the people make flower crowns, eat typical food, sing traditional songs and be merry all night long with friends and family around a bonfire if possible.

Named one of the food pearls of Riga, Kilimanjaro is a place where you do want to have your dinner  held if want to experience an excellent, white glove service in a non-traditional, African style restaurant which happens to be named one of the best restaurants in Riga (Took 8th place in the excellence award of best restaurants in Riga in 2014). Therefore this was also my restaurant choice when in come to choose where to celebrate my mom’s birthday.

The restaurant offers exotic and traditional, gourmet plates in a friendly atmosphere adding a complementary snacks/drinks between the courses for a fair price together with a high standard service.

Here you can see for yourselves how my foodie experience went (even on a strict diet like I have ). Read More

I believe that the end of the winter is the hardest, the darkest and the most depressing period and that is the time when people needs the most sun, relax and some good getaway to resist till spring arrives.

The main 5 reasons why everyone should visit Spa are following:

1. De-stressing – A spa treatment offers you a relaxing short break from your busy life routines, soothes your nerves and washes your worries away; Read More

After leaving Diamantina and unfortunately, not becoming ridiculously rich by finding diamonds, we changed cities.
As yesterday was Latvia’ s Independence Day then we had a special breakfast  – almost, almost Latvian style (had also some Laima sweets) and we made 2 typical Latvian pigtails.
