How to shop and build a perfect salad

How to shop and build a perfect salad

Foody- Friday is here and today and it means another weak is behind our backs and another weekend is ahead of us. Specially difficult for the ones who are on the tight diet, like I am. Resisting food temptations is not easy, but so rewarding. So swap those aperetivo fries for a salad or make your own  aperetivo/ social gathering at home and build your own, perfect and healthy salad and snack that would save up on your calories and pocket.

Here is how I build and shop for my week ahead for salads to make it colorful, interesting, nutritious and delicious.

I have already shared some of my recipes of salads and office lunch so can check them out for inspiration. But this time – how to make your own salad with a nice visual that speak for itself.

Nr.1 BASE – the green ones are good, kale is the best one but mixing different ones together, I believe spices up the taste.

I even add flowers, the edible ones. So proud of my beautiful salad that was particularly enjoying it.

Nr. 2- ingredients – Veggies. I always go for cucumber, tomato and maybe some soya sprouts.

Nr. 3 – protein – important, really important part of the salad. I either go with egg whites, tofu, fish, like tuna or meat: usually chicken/turkey.

Nr.4 – healthy extras. For me that’s some olives, some seeds (like flax or seed mix) and herbs, like dill. some special days, but not too often, I add some avocado for creamier texture. yumm, yumm, but than I reduce/skip the oil and olive part at all, because avocado is rich and nutrition already on his own.

Nr.5 – dressing: I usually go for olive oil only or lemon juice, but not really fan of toppings as they are packed with carbs that goes straight to the belly (and we do not want that, do we? )

So this is my salad building basic points. Just make sure you always have some good variety of fresh products at your shopping bag and in your kitchen and you will be eating healthier and cheaper in no time!
