Monday is for challenges and new beginnings! it’s a perfect occasion to reset something or uptake a new thing, it’s like a second chance to start over that’s offered to you every single week. So today I am also throwing myself a new challenge to reset my caffeine effect or challenge myself to not use coffee for next two weeks.
The thing I decided to do it is just because I believe that coffee is not anymore doing the effect to me as it used to so I want to go back to the time when I never drank coffee (5 years ago), but living in Italy you just get used to a nice cup of a good espresso that you just cannot do it without. Moreover as for a athlete caffeine is an essential for a performance boosting before training and it should better have it’s effect properly so it is a time to resit it!I am not the person who uses excessively coffee but I must admit I have increased significantly in last six month the dosage due to work load, often early trips and trying to perform better in every field of my life – including workouts.
Many scientists would admit that caffeine is not a bad thing, if used in moderation, however many people use it way to much so here is the list of the problems they start to face due to that:
- high blood pressure
- increased chance of stroke
- increased cortisol production (makes gaining muscle difficult)
- anxiety
- heart palpitations and other arrhythmias
- reduction of sleep quality
- reduction of sleep duration
- insomnia
- restlessness
- irritability
- auditory hallucinations
- decreased bone density
- upset stomach
- heartburn
- muscular tremors
To change that I am going to try myself to reset my caffeine effect and for next two weeks and this is how I am going to do it:
First week – no coffee nor caffeine filled beverages (like cappuccinos, sodas, energy drinks- don’t drink anyway, but reminding that those babies also has loads of caffeine). Instead going with a light green tea and white tea – that contains just small amounts of caffeine.
One cup of coffee contains 100-150mg of caffeine; a cup of green tea has only about 25mg of caffeine.
Second week – no caffeine whatsoever, nor even green tea – just infusions from real fruits and natural herbs/ leaves (like mint, peppermint).
BTW, remember! Of course no sugars nor sweeteners to make life sweeter with that cup of tea!
And let’s see how it goes! (Getting ready to go to London in 2 weeks! Tea with a queen time! )
WHO IS IN? HOW MUCH COFFEE CUPS YOU DRINK A DAY?
