Happy midsummer everyone! Today is Sunday, midsummer and also my name day therefore triple reason to make this day special. (Already started with some fit pancakes and homemade frozen yogurt (recipe soon will follow) ice cream). Also Sunday is about traveling and sharing my stories and tips and today is not an exception – I will share my second part of my Sicily getaway – exploring Palermo beach – Mondello.
Mondello is a beach for people in Palermo that can be reached in 20 min from Palermo with car or 25 min with a public bus nr. 806 from Palermo – stop Piazza Don Sturzo. (Time table you can find on AMAT homepage and ticket costs 1,4 eur (absolutely mandatory), the bus goes every 15 minutes, so no really need to rush.)
As our main objective of this short weekend break was to hit the beach and get some tan than that was exactly we did our second morning right after waking up.
The bus was crowded with cheerful teenagers in shorts and crop tops, carrying parasols and beach bags. The fun and happy atmosphere made me feel like I am a school bus with my classmates going for a long waited summer trip. Kind a throw back in school years when the end of school has arrived and the summer is about to start – no more lessons and no more studying – just summer, beach, friends and enjoying life. This ride put me also on their vibe too and made my adventure start just right.
Mondello beach is really beautiful laying between two cliffs – mount Gallo (rooster) and mount Pellegrino and the city have numerous Liberty style villas on the seafront promenade made it one of the gems of Art Nouveau in Europe.
As everywhere in Italy the beaches are divided in lido’s where you can rent your deckchair and parasol or a free beach.
And as the beach was so nice and the weather just perfect (around 28C° in day)we returned and spent the next day there as well.
Beach and sun is something that makes me truly happy and can spend hours and hours there having all kidns of activities. Like playing volleyball, swimming ,running, read a good book or learning handstand. (Yes, I did it in Sicily. Complete video – here).
Another nice factor about Sicily in general was the happiness, warm people and laughs everywhere, kind word and help to a stranger if needed with a smile on their face and the love in the air (sometimes literally).
It’s the changing cabins free for the beach visitors – a nice touch, I must say. Youngsters used them to sunbath on top of them to find more space and get some “privacy”.
Started last year but already setting a pattern for a good tradition is spending my boyfriend’s birthday somewhere nice, new and sunny. Last year we had a Paris weekend getaway for his 30th birthday. (The complete Paris review and travel tips and recommendations you can check out here).
The promenade along the beach is something magical, relaxing and so relaxing giving you a complete satisfaction, good vibes and happiness, therefore strongly recommended to everyone. Next time when will come back, and I am determined I will, i will rent a place at Mondello to have a morning run along the beach.
Do you have your happy place? What’s your favorite beach in the world?
