As much is important to stay consistent to your training schedule and do not skip workouts (without a very! good reason) to have a results, also having a proper rest day is much needed for body to build strength and soul as well! Of course we all like to have a rest day and have our own time to be lazy, reflect and just recharge your batteries (walking home all day in jammies and just be plain lazy (guilty!). However it often ends (at least to me) to be unproductive what, I hate the most, as I believe it is wasting the precious time while I could be productive and clean up things from my schedule and not pile them up.
It took time but I have finally worked out and come up with a balance to rest properly and also get some things done on my days off the workout and it definitely helps me to not feel guilty.
In order to get the best out of the rest day here is a list of tips and suggestions how to make the best out of it and that will lift your productivity and will not make you regret wasting your day. (Works for me! )
FOCUS ON FOOD
Take the day to plan out your meal plan for the next week. Grocery Shop and spend some quality time in the kitchen cooking and preparing everything you can. A Little time today will save you thousands of time through the week!
I always use my meal prep. days on Sundays and Wednesdays when I prepare food for next 3 days. Works like a charm and saves my loads of time. All I need to do is to take it out of fridge and bring it with me to work.
STRETCH & RESTORE
The rest day is also a perfect time to put an extra effort to stretch out the sore muscles. Either it is at home (like me) or try out a new yoga class. As your body is recovering from workouts and muscle tension do whatever you can to help it to heal.
(In the picture above I am doing one of the poses for Journey to Splits challenge by Blogilates. Loved it!)
RELAX & REVIEW
Use the day to truly rest your body and your mind. Plan out the week ahead of you, review your progress over the last one and give yourself a break. Do things that help you to relax and mentally refresh yourself.
For me it is a nice bubble bath (usually in hotel’s gyms as don’t have one at home nor time if I would.. but still a good way to rest). Also loving to have some reading done and catching up with some magazines and books.
This is rest for me. But it could be anything also a pinning on Pintrest to your visual board, watching tv series or just catching up with your friends.
HOW DO YOU REST? WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO ON YOUR TIME OFF?
